I particularly like the juxtaposition of Damien Hirst's face vs John LeKay's face. Very insightful that. I think if Hirst had used John's skull for "For The Love of God", I would have liked it even better. Yes, I did see it in person and it was super sparkly in the blackened out room and made me all spastically happy. And that's not something I can say about the majority of contemp(t)orary art.
Also, I'm sorry (?) to say it, but Hirst's sheep is a million times better executed, arranged and positioned than LeKay's. I know that's not the point as the thievery is quite obvious, but still.
And as for the Joseph Cornell comparison, it's such a difficult matter as he seems to pwn simply EVERYTHING in the mixed media / Wunderkammer world. His name always turned up whenever I tried to explain my
ex's work to the uninitiated. D'uh.
The spin paintings, yes, that was just stupid, Damien and the Lori Precious case a bit sad.
But anyways, thanks for the entertaining read, tb and for reminding me that I need to steal that Spastics Society statue from the sweets shoppe down the road!
