ForteanTimes reports that today - on St Paul's Day - in 1979 Lily Smith of Yorkshire spontaneously combusted. The police found her legs under the dining room table, and the rest of her, a pile of ashes, on a dining room chair. Hmm.. fascinating..

1 MayIn 1990 China Youth News reported that four-year-old Tong Tangjiang from Hunan province was catching fire. In mid-April his grandmother saw smoke pouring from his trousers, and a hole was burned through two layers of clothing. He was rushed to hospital where he spontaneously ignited four times in two hours. His right hand, armpits and private parts were burnt. (via ForteanTimes)

Not really a typical case of SHC, but nevertheless quite fascinating: 5 May In 1934 the Times reported that Senora Anna Morano, 'the Luminous Woman of Pirano', who suffered from asthma, emitted a blue glow from her breast as she slept. Many doctors came to witness the phenomenon, visible for several seconds at a time, during which her heart rate doubled. Some attempted an explanation in terms of the then-current theories of bioluminescence. The Jesuit writer Father Herbert Thurston has chronicled many devout Christians who have glowed in the dark, among them John Tornerius, Blessed Thomas of Cori, Blessed Bernardino Realini and Father Francisco Suarez. I realised the other day that Julie Heffernan, an artist I highly admire, often paints scenes of what looks like SHC in her artworks: © Julie Heffernan - Previously featured over here

Her work is stunning indeed! She also shows at Lisa Sette, so I recently had a chance to see some of her works in person at the Art Chicago Expo. Gorgeous! It's such an honor to have my work in such fine company. *dreamy sigh* If only I could afford it... more images here: http://www.lisasettegallery.com/artistsA-H/heffernan.htm

Well... you're funny sometimes. It's them who feel honoured to have your artworks' company, my dear.

Aw shucks...thank you Suzanne. I keep forgetting that humility is hopelessly passé, especially in the art world. Nonetheless, I'm holding out for a revival... What I meant is- what better treat, than to exhibit amongst your favorites?

... and Kozyndan's take on the subject (which was created chronologically before Carlsen's piece above as I'd like to point out without accusation... ):
