Quote
WSJ.com: You have been illustrated differently by several artists, including cult comic-cartoonist Robert Crumb. Is there one artist whom you feel best represented your ideas?

Pekar: Almost all of the artists that I've worked with have done a good job of representing what I wanted convey. Crumb, of course, is a master. He not only can illustrate humorous stories, but serious ones as well. You can look at a page that he has drawn without any text on it at all, and the images will make you smile. Frank Stack is another wonderful artist who can handle both themes. Stack was one of the first and best of the underground cartoonists in the 1960s and he has really been shamefully neglected, up until this point. He has an abstract style, and his drawings are very sensitive to the text. He could put a serious or humorous spin on his art depending on the story.
